Flat roofs are notorious for causing problems. Leaking and Plywood rotting are just a couple of the problems that go along with having a flat roof, having a poorly installed flat roof that is.
The number one cause of repairs is leaking due to incompetent waterproofing.
When your flat roof starts to fail on you, you should consider getting it repaired. If you choose to ignore it, the damage could be too much and it could fall down on you literally. Whether you do it yourself or get an expert to repair it depends on the severity of the damage. There are temporary, and permanent repairs that you can do to your roof depending on the type of roof you have.
The easiest way to prevent leaking is by patching it, but when not done properly the water will eventually leak causing the wood to rot, and there’s another problem there which means more expense. Thus the easiest way isn’t always the best way.
Now on to repairing. We will delve a bit on traditional felt roof repair, asphalt roof repair concrete roof repair, fibreglass and EPDM. Paint and sealants might seem the easiest and the best short term solution. But you might want to store more of that because for sure after awhile, you’ll notice a drip again. For a more permanent solution, you may add a ‘layer on top’ if the existing felt can take it.
The idea behind repairs is knowing the real source of the problem and coming up with a necessary solution and a method to finally fix your problem with your failing roof. Sometimes even with constant repairs, the damage has already been done and there is no other way to go but to replace the roof. Better than having to face constant repairs. And when you actually go to install a new roof make sure to do it right this time.
